One Ocean, One World:
A Children's Musicale

Original music and arrangement by Edwin Edpalina from the original idea, story, libretto and lyrics by John Urquhart (additional lyrics: Orlando Salazar). First premiered  on 10 December 2010, this work was performed by the children of Kindergarten (K-Grade 1 Jr) and Elementary (Grades 1-5) at the American International School Hong Kong.

Plot:
Whales are known to travel spectacular distances through the ocean. They are highly intelligent mammals that are believed to be able to communicate with each other through a sort of singing that has been studied but not much understood. The wondrous whale, huge but gentle, mostly quiet but maybe profound is the powerful central image in this children!s theater piece. The whale has enormous appeal across our age groups. As a central image and central narrative thread, whales will carry the piece!s message on their broad backs.

The piece follows a simple plot line. A pod of whales swims ocean encountering and thus revealing the wonders of the deep as well as human made threats to the ocean!s fine balance reporting to the audience in rhyming couplets. Along the way we meet a sampling of the nearly impossible diversity of the ocean!s creatures including penguins, sea turtles, shell fish, and more. The piece emphasizes the relationship between the health of the ocean and the health of human society. It is meant to be informative but not pedantic, principled but not preachy, and a whole lot of fun.

Save the Ocean now and save your Only World...
Protect it from destruction for your future generation...

(From the theme song: Lend a Hand)
